Lanpro website migration and rebrand
Client: Lanpro (formerly Lanpro Services)
Industry: Planning Consultants
Project: Website Migration and Rebrand
Collaborators: The Click (branding and design partner), Sargison Associates (content and strategy)
Project overview
Lanpro approached our team to transition their existing website from a outdated Content Management System (CMS) to WordPress as part of a broader rebranding effort. The migration involved creating a custom data extraction solution, updating branding across the site, and integrating new design elements provided by The Click, a branding agency responsible for Lanpro’s refreshed logo, colour palette, and typography. Our primary goals were to ensure a seamless migration of content, maintain or improve SEO performance, and launch the redesigned website under a new domain.
Objectives
The project’s main objectives were:
Migrate all content, including news articles, project information, team profiles, and service pages from an outdated CMS to WordPress.
Update the website to reflect Lanpro’s new branding, including logo, typography, and colour palette.
Leverage WordPress to improve the site’s usability and content manageability for staff and clients.
Change the domain from lanproservices.co.uk to lanpro.co.uk while preserving SEO value through proper URL redirects.
Process and execution
Custom Data Migration
The first challenge was the migration of content from Lanpro’s content from the outdated CMS. Since there was no standard export capability, our team developed a bespoke crawler to automate data extraction that into structed data that could be imported. This custom tool meticulously transferred a diverse array of content types, ensuring all data from news articles and service pages to detailed team profiles was accurately preserved.
Challenges
Ensuring all content formats, links, and media were extracted without corruption.
Certain content types required specialised mapping in WordPress, as the new CMS would organise information differently. The data that was extracted was interlinked with other systems and needed to be reconnected to maintain integrity.
Our team implemented rigorous quality checks and collaborated closely with Lanpro & Sargison Associates to confirm data accuracy at every stage.
Content review and branding update
With the content migrated, our next task was a comprehensive review in collaboration with Sargison Associates to remove outdated branding and content. We established criteria for what content would be updated, removed, or restructured. This included:
-
Replacing old logos, fonts, and colour schemes with updated assets from The Click.
-
Collaborating with Lanpro to identify outdated content for revision or removal.
Our team coordinated with The Click to ensure the rebranded elements worked harmoniously with the WordPress framework, ensuring a modern, professional look and feel throughout the site.
Design integration with The Click
In partnership with The Click, we integrated the new branding elements into WordPress, customising templates and page layouts to reflect Lanpro’s fresh visual identity. Key changes included:
-
New Fonts and Colour Schemes: Implementing the new colour palette and typography to maintain consistency with Lanpro’s rebrand.
-
Revised Page Layouts: Adjusting the layout of project pages, team profiles, and service descriptions to highlight the updated brand personality.
Weekly check-ins and collaborative design reviews allowed our development team to stay aligned with The Click’s branding vision, ensuring a unified experience across all design elements.
SEO and domain transition
A significant technical aspect of this project was changing the website’s domain. Transitioning from lanproservices.co.uk to lanpro.co.uk required a detailed approach to avoid any loss in search engine ranking and maintain user accessibility.
Our approach included:
We set up 301 redirects for all previous URLs to their new counterparts, ensuring a smooth transition for both users and search engines.
To minimise any impact on search rankings, we worked with Lanpro to implement meta tag optimisations and maintain keyword density.
By executing a seamless transition, we preserved Lanpro’s search engine presence and user access to historical content.
Project results and feedback
The newly rebranded website was launched successfully, meeting all key objectives. The new site provides an enhanced user experience, simplifies content management for Lanpro’s team, and reflects the updated brand identity.
Improved Usability
The WordPress CMS offered Lanpro a more intuitive backend interface, empowering their team to manage and update content without relying on custom code.
SEO Preservation
Through effective URL redirects and careful attention to SEO details, we maintained Lanpro’s search visibility and preserved organic traffic.
Positive Client Feedback
Lanpro appreciated the collaborative approach, noting that our team’s flexibility and communication helped bring the rebrand and migration together smoothly.
